The third generation Spot GPS locator and messenger has incorporated several new and improved features over the previous generation, including a longer battery life, improved performance, motion activation, unlimited tracking and the option for a USB power source. Spot is unique in that it uses first GPS satellites to locate the device, then commercial satellites from there which relay tracking information through antennae coupled with a pre-programmed message (if the traveler desires) which can be sent to a phone via SMS or email. Calls of distress use the same process, but instead are forwarded to an emergency response center. The ruggedly constructed device can operate in temperatures from -22F to 140F and altitudes from -328ft to 21,320ft and is powered simply by 4 AAA batteries.
