Alfama is a beautifully and intrically designed bureau designed by Spanish design group Tralhão. The name “Alfama” is a fusion between the first letter of the Greek alphabet, “alpha”, and “ama” meaning love in Portuguese. Inspired by Portuguese tiling, Alfama is designed as a tribute to the anonymous design of past generations and aims to personify the ever transforming and deconstructed world we live in today.

What really distinguishes this piece is the surprising interior, made up of MDF with laser cut shapes that are lacquered in high gloss white. The use of different finishes including gold leaf with a varnish layer and laser cut stainless steel plates add to the elaborate inside. The exterior is enhanced by light reaching the interior and reflecting throughout the bureau.

designer: tralhão furniture
materials: stainless steel, glass, vinyl and mdf
