In 2009 McDonalds opened two Tokyo outlets. They did away with the golden arches, Ronald McDonald, Hamburglar, Happy Meals, and McMuffins in these McDonalds. They even did away with a (the) logo. The only thing they retained is the color red. To say that it surgically has removed their corporate voice — well its really closer to a lobotomy. Wow.

much anticipated highline redevelopment in new york city’s meatpacking district. the design was created by new york based landscape architects james corner field operations and architects diller scofidio + renfro. the highline was first created in the 1930s as an elevated rail line and remained in use until the 1980s. after many years of sitting empty, the first section of the highline is now completely renovated and the second part will open 2010. throughout the strip of elevated terrain the architects also placed benches and other special areas for gathering. the new design features a winding pathway accompanied by wildlife on each side.

Here’s a clever concept to the mis-match aspect ratios for cinema ( 16/9 ) and television ( 4/3 ). Not sure how it’s done but I don’t mind showing this piece of furniture. Being familiar with these dimensions it was easy to remember the model name: 16943. Never liked the 4/3 configure.

Nike hindsight gives you unparalleled vision.
Stay one step ahead of irresponsible motorists. The Nike Hindsight gives you superhuman-like powers with extended peripheral vision so all those sneaky cars, beware.
They work similar to bifocals except for your peripheral vision. By using fresnel lenses on both sides of the glasses, riders can detect motion in a field of view beyond the normal human limit of 180º. If you want to get technical about it; high power, diverging fresnel zones aligned vertically distort into view an extra 25º on both sides. Vision is radically distorted in the periphery, but as the eye detects only motion in that area, little clarity is lost in the process.
A rider’s clear benefit is in the early warning of approaching vehicles, but a less obvious advantage is reducing the necessary head rotation to check behind. Tho it was intended for bicyclists, there’s a myriad of sports and activities where a greater field of view becomes an advantage. As for me, I would totally wear these 24/7 to keep this one particular friend in check. He finds it funny sneaking up on me. My nerves are shattered enough. I can’t take it anymore. I need these shades.

Lietfaden color sewing machine.
This sewing machine is for everyone, but fits right in with those who wish to enter the craft of attaching clothing to itself with thread. New sewers! This is for you. But for the perfectionists, there’s a electromagnetic needle drive, filigree upper arm design. The workspace is wide open. A backlit work area, with the stitch pattern projected on to the fabric it’s about to be sewn onto.
What’s that ink for? It’s for the thread. It’s a yarn printer. You match up the color you need at the top, and this baby prints the ink as you go. And with a pneumatic JetAir-system handling your threading the productivityis surprising.
There’s also a simple slick table that matches up with the machine.
And it color matches. You know those amazing yet impossible-to-match old fabrics you see in used clothing at the second hand store? Instead of buying new fabric, tear those old rags apart and match em up. All you need is a swatch, which can be a tiny rip of the clothing you’re about to sew.

“A sewer worker is like a brain surgeon. We’re both specialists.” —Ed Norton, The Honeymooners. Ed’s fingernails would be a lot cleaner if this robotic sewer “crawler” existed. Though not an object of beauty this robot is designed to go where you would rather not. It’s estimated that 850 billion gallons of sewer and storm […]
