While in the midst of Harry Bertoia’s foray into the use of metal rods to create distinctive, waffle-textured furniture, so also came the Side Chair into modern existence. The frame of Bertoia’s Side Chair is made up of welded steel with rods of chrome polish or powder-coated paint, available in a variety of eye-popping color finishes.
This particular design was awarded the Certificate of Merit by the American Institute of Architects in 1955. The Bertoia side chair is available unupholstered, with a seat cushion or fully upholstered. Seat cushions are fastened to the chair by fabric edges that are secured into place by nifty snap locks. The fully upholstered and seat cushion upholstery versions are available in an array of KnollTextiles; seat cushions also in Spinneybeck leather. Colors include: black, white, red, yellow, green and blue polished chrome or satin chrome finish.
