All of the solid wood furniture in Swedish studio Claesson Koivisto Rune’s collection for Japanese brand Matsuso T has five sides. The maple wood collection includes an armchair, a stool, dining and coffee tables, a coat stand, a clothes rail and a bench, each with softened corners.
“We live in a world of five elements that we experience through our five senses. Five is gently odd. Five is not too many. Five is beautiful.
A five-sided figure is called a pentagon. We developed a shape that combines a circle with a pentagon. The chair, the table, the clothes rail and the other members of the FIVE family all share this iconic shape. Uncompromisingly made in solid wood, by the best Japanese craftsmen.”
Says Mårten Claesson of Claesson Koivisto Rune.
Their research led to develop a shape that combines a circle with a pentagon. This iconic form never needs to be lined-up with the rest of the furnishings within an interior. Its inherent flexibility as well as its distinct and memorable shape are qualities that will garner attention.
They had designed a series of furniture items around this iconic shape – an armchair/chair, a stool, dining and coffee tables, a coat stand, a clothes rail and bench. All of these items of furniture are linked together through the use of this five-sided motif – like an indelible signature.
