Like many previous chair projects I have designed the Lightwood Chair is about structure, making use of the unbeatable craftsmanship of Maruni’s wood technology to achieve a light wooden structure. This can be completed with a variety of different solutions for the seat, starting with the lightest, a white mesh, which leaves the structure partially visible, then a woven webbing which reminds us of shaker furniture, except that it’s a synthetic webbing which makes an interesting contrast with the wood, and then the more traditional upholstered seat in fabric or leather, which provide extra comfort and can be removed for cleaning. It’s a contract chair which is equally suitable to the home.

Lightwood uses the least amount of wood possible to achieve a lightweight but strong dining chair. Birchwood frame with plastic mesh (Available in leather, textile or woven synthetic webbing) ‘lightwood’ includes a chair made from solid birch that features either webbed, cushioned (upholstered leather or fabric) or woven mesh seating options. in the case of the upholstered leather and fabric, the material is detachable making it easy to clean.

Drop table. Junya ishigami.

Junya Ishigami's Drop Table is a paradox of fluid static. The table is formed using GS Plexiglas®, taking some 50 hours of work to create after it undergoes each step in the process. The focal point of the table is the giant, contact lens-resembling "drop" tabletop. At a glance, it appears to be a delicate plate of glass. Upon closer inspection, you will notice how solid the 2000 x 3000 mm, and 70 mm thick sheet of cast GS Plexiglas® is, boasting a diameter of 148 cm. Three cast GS Plexiglas® cylinders are interpolated into the circular slots of the top by a machine process that integrates them perfectly. Afterwards, the 60 mm legs are polished by hand, each of them slightly different according to where they were positioned into varying angles of the tabletop. Drop endures an extensive smoothing and polishing procedure overall, contributing to the ice sculpture appearance of the final product. Because the affect of the Drop is meant to distort the perception of the piece's surrounding space and objects, Ishigami's Family Chair line is the ideal company to compliment and complete this surrealistic endeavor. This table can serve as a dining table (height 75cm) or a coffee table (height 39cm) and is crafted with a glossy transparent perspex. designer: junya ishigami producer: living divani materials: GS plexiglas period: 2010
