The Glider is the first portable shelter to feature a fully integrated rainwater retention system, and made from a new fabric that can perform in all-weather extremes. What makes the Glider so unique is the patent-pending built-in rain retention technology.
The Design: Our most basic survival needs: water, food & shelter. Over multiple day long backpacking trips, it may not be feasible to pack all the water you need to survive making it necessary to find water sources while on the trail or in the backcountry. Many times water sources can be sparse, even in rainy weather. Before the Glider, there was no reliable way to collect rainwater in meaningful volumes.
Catenary Curves – The six (6) catenary curves allow shelter to pitch taut with minimal effort and provide directional support for rain collection. Kammok draws their inspiration from the design of the natural world: The Glider is inspired by the shape of the Sugar Glider – a small marsupial that resembles a flying squirrel.
Natural “Rain Gutters” – Rain gutters are created along the catenary curves using fully adjustable suspension. There are eight (8) “rain gutter” suspension points on the two sides of the Glider – two (2) adjustable draw cords on the center of each of the main body panels and one (1) buckle suspension on each of the four feet of the Glider. When the “rain gutter” suspension is engaged, water is then channeled to the four feet of the Glider.
Flexible water bottle attachment points – At the base of the feet there are funnels that enable the attachment of a flexible water bottle to collect the rainwater. This water bottle attachment is made possible by our patent-pending BPA free plastic connectors. The connectors fit most 28mm flexible water bottle threads. The funnels also feature: overflow grommets on funnels to allow water to escape when bottle is full, Hypalon® fabric O-rings for plastic connector attachments, & removable ultralight mesh debris filters on all funnels.
Given the dimensions of Glider and all the inherent functionality weight/strength management comes into play and a new ultralight/ultra-functional waterproof fabric was created
