Council is a San Francisco-based firm that was started in 2006. Founder and designer Derek Chen was puzzled to find that there were so few American design companies represented in the international design field. This inspired the formation of Council.
Jonah Takagi is the designer of the Index tables. His vibrant and never-ending imagination inspired him to become an industrial designer and start his own atelier. His furniture and lighting pieces have been well-received at previous shows including IMM Cologne and the Milan Furniture Fair.
Index is a collection of tables that possess a simple and warm, yet modern aesthetic. Each table uses the same support structure system, but all come in different heights and colors. The family of tables is constructed of stained ash wood that is available in whitewash, green or yellow.
Tasked with creating a table made entirely of wood, Jonah Takagi designed an honest, straightforward family of occasional tables. Each Index table utilizes the same typology of structure, with the shape of the top and scale differentiating the three sizes. Table legs are capped by an elegant arc that gently intrudes into the surface of the table.
