In 1963, Arne Jacobsen was commissioned to design an extension for St. Catherine’s College along with the surrounding landscape and a furniture series, which resulted in the Oxford Chair. Two years later the chairs were designed with upholstery and put into production. Over the years these chairs grew thicker and changed in appearance, but have recently been revitalized to look much like their wooden and tall original form. The extra tall back serves as a symbol of prestige, but the series contains a tall, medium or low back and a lounge model. The manufacturer, Fritz Hansen, offers many different fabric and leather upholstery options. This chair is proof that a true classic form is always in style.
