Kenya Hara, the art director for Muji assembles 13 notable architects and designers to do what they do best: conceptualize. Each concept comes with a free downloadable blueprint as well as instructions and videos demonstrating customization. You can pick by dog, degree of difficulty or simply your favorite. The end products are so cute you don’t even need to own a dog. Hara sees the project as an opportunity to explore architecture in a different way. And that’s what’s really so interesting along with the DIY concept.
Dogs are a species made for humans, forced to live in houses also made for humans. With Architecture for Dogs, Hara has assembled a team of elite designers to reconsider the dog’s experience in an otherwise human world. And reconsidering dog-level design, in turn, is a means to allow humans to be more mindful of their own environments. The projects are united with care. Each is crafted to a dog’s concerns. Please take the time to carefully examine the details of these elaborately designed ingenious structures. [ architecture for dogs exhibit: design miami 2012 ]
