The Panton Chair is Verner Panton’s best known and perhaps most significant design. He was known for his original and imaginative designs of furniture, lighting, and textiles. Excited about the design potential of plastic, a new material at the time, he wanted to create a comfortable, all-purpose plastic chair moulded in a single piece. Panton’s long search for a manufacturer led to his initial contact with Vitra in 1963. The Panton Chair, a collaborative effort, was developed with Vitra and finally introduced to the public in 1967. The Panton Chair is recognized as a classic of modern furniture design.
