Designed by achille and pier giacomo castiglioni for flos, 1962, the taccia is a table lamp that provides light by reflecting off its spun aluminum white top. light focus is adjusted by moving the glass upon the base. the taccia can also function as a floor lamp due to its large size. base measures 10.25″ h and is 7.5″ in diameter. available in black or sand-blasted aluminum finished base.
Pushing design to the level of art, Achille Castiglioni creates brilliantly imagined objects that illustrate his love of paradox and, at the same time, a thoughtful concern for a formal balance. An example of this is his Taccia Table Lamp (1962), which he created with older brother Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. The design is like an upside down hanging lamp. Covering the top of a deep translucent glass bowl is a concave sheet of spun aluminum in a matte white finish. This sheet acts as a reflecting screen for the bulb which is hidden in the extruded aluminum base. This base is corrugated to better disperse the bulb’s heat and effectively prevents glare from the bulb. The translucent glass bowl is not attached to the stand, which allows the user to change the light direction by rotating the bowl. Bulb (included): halogen 75W/120V/Par 30 Medium.
